It belongs to the class antifibrinolytics which is used for short term management of internal bleeding in patients who have hemophilia (a condition where the blood does not clot properly) and reduce the need for replacement therapy during and following dental extraction in such patients. It is also used for the treatment of local fibrinolysis (abnormal breakdown of blood clots) that may occur in conditions such as abnormally heavy menstrual bleeding, gastrointestinal bleeding, etc., and general fibrinolysis that may occur in conditions such as hemorrhagic urinary disorders, postoperative hemorrhage (excessive bleeding after a surgical procedure), etc.
